Prayer is Listening

Prayer is not so much about making requests. The Father knows our needs before we ask.

Prayer is about going quiet. Turning inwards. Becoming still enough to hear what is already being spoken.

The Kingdom of God is within — and therefore so are all the answers.

True prayer is not the performance of many words. It is not the negotiation of outcomes or the presentation of a well-argued case to a distant deity. It is something much simpler and much deeper: the drawing from the rivers of living water that already reside within you.

The Father would have us stop. Listen. Turn our attention inward to that secret place of solitude and peace. There, in the quiet, we hear his whispers — of love, of guidance, of assurance that we are held.

Prayer is not us changing God’s mind. It is God renewing ours.

Perhaps the most radical thing you can do today is not to speak more — but to go quiet and listen.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
