Understanding the nature of the relationship between me and my thoughts has been very liberating indeed.
Negative thoughts, like some guests, do make unannounced visits. But I don’t have to entertain them.
Thoughts come barging in unannounced. They emerge in the conscious mind, feeling very much like our own creation. But they are not ours — unless we own them, believe them, and obey them.
Like unwelcome guests, thoughts can appear out of nowhere. But we have a choice: entertain them, or send them on their way.
Think of it this way. You are standing outside, watching birds cross the sky. A bird comes into view — and then gently fades into the distant horizon. You are the observer. You did not summon the bird. You cannot control its flight path. But you can certainly prevent it from landing and building a nest in your hair.
Thoughts are like that. They arise. They pass. They have no power beyond what we give them.
You are more than the sum of your thoughts. You are not your thoughts at all. You are the one who observes them — and that distinction changes everything.
How empowering. How liberating. The journey continues.
