Judas Iscariot is infamous, the Bible’s quintessential betrayer who allegedly sold out Jesus for silver. But was he truly a villain? Or does his story have layers beyond the gospel narratives? Perhaps the key lies not in the historical details but in the deeper meaning betrayal can hold.
Though painful, Jesus’s betrayal served his path. It was necessary for his journey back towards the Divine.
Betrayal can happen in our own lives, too. Expectations fail. Beliefs we clung to crumble. We feel let down by people, possessions, or even our own thoughts. It can shatter our illusions and leave us in deep disappointment.
I’ve walked this path – and perhaps you have, too.
Yet, this kind of betrayal can be a blessing in disguise. It pushes us to dig deeper, question our assumptions, and move beyond our limited perceptions. Betrayal, when it shatters illusions, can set us on a path toward our true identity in God.
Those painful disillusionments were needed for me to let go of the false and receive what is eternally true and fulfilling.
