Understanding the nature of the relationship between me and my thoughts,
has been very liberating indeed.

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS,
LIKE SOME GUESTS,
DO MAKE UNANNOUNCED VISITS.
BUT I DON’T HAVE TO ENTERTAIN THEM.

Thoughts come barging in unannounced.
They emerge and occur in my conscious mind.
They feel very much like my own creation.
However, they are not mine unless … I own them, believe them and obey them.

Like unannounced or unwelcome guests, thoughts can sometimes emerge ‘out of the blue!’
But I have a choice to either entertain these guests, or to send them on their merry way!

Just as I observe birds flying in the skies above my head,
thoughts can and do appear unannounced in my mind.

I am the observer, watching the bird’s flight path across the sky;
It comes into view and then gently fades away into the distant horizon.

I cannot prevent or interupt the bird’s flight …
But I can certainly prevent it landing and building a nest in my hair!

I am more than the sum of my thoughts.
Indeed, I am not my thoughts at all.

How empowering is that. How liberating. The journey continues …
